yes it is handled via port forwarding. In the there is a module in the
kernel which handle ipmasqing of irc - ip_masq_irc. If you enable this in
your startup scripts and you open IDENT with PMFirewall you should have no
problems using IRC. if you are not certain if you have that module check
your /lib/modules/kernel_version/ipv4 directory. You will also see
additional masq modules which I would reccommend using. THey make life much
much easier.

Subject: [pmfirewall] Handling IDENT on port 113 - DETAILS NEEDED PLEASE
I know that you corporate users don't want this passing through, for good
reason.
We home users would like to chat on IRC networks from a client behind the
firewall.
I know that this is possible, but I can't for the life of me figure out how.
Here's what information I've gleaned from my research on this:
Can this get set up with port forwarding for port 113 going from $OUTERNET
to INTERNALNET, or does this require a specific IP address? For the newbie
(me), how?
I'm reasonably certain that Port forwarding isn't running currently.
I read somewhere that some hacks have been created using oidentd and other
identd servers, hence allowing the linux box to handle the IDENT request
from teh IRC server as opposed to passing this request on to the client. I
couldn't get this to work., either.
Anyone that can provide some useful information on this, would be of great
help.
Thanks.
