Well, as it's a 2.4 kernel, you will need to enable IPChains (the 2.4
kernel ships with the newer IPTables, which pmfirewall does not yet
support. Search the archive for assistance on this - there have been
several threads over the last few months.

You should use one of the 3 non-routable IP ranges. Most people use
192.168.x.x. The masquerading features of Linux will then manage internal
traffic going outside your network, using the external IP. Works extremely
well.
